Northern Shores Community Development, Inc. (formerly known as Northern Shores Loan Fund, Inc.)

Harbor Springs, MI – September 11, 2014 – Northern Shores Loan Fund, Inc. has changed its name to Northern Shores Community Development (“NSCD”)! This name change highlights our new and ever expanding loan programs and services here in Michigan.

Northern Shores Community Development has been expanding its services and service area since I have been lucky enough to be named Executive Director in January of this year. We offer our Energy Efficient Loan program which has been a great success! In this program we can offer loans from anything from Air Conditioners to Roof Shingles, from refrigerators to washers and dryers. Our terms are better than you will find locally plus it will build your credit at the same time and at VERY low payments per month which is always under $60.00 per month (if you took out the maximum amount allowed based on a 5 year term)!

Another program is our Artisan Program Loans, which is something we are very proud of and now we even have one of the businesses (Totem Lodges) we lent money to offering to display and sell the items at their business in Indian River!

All of this means one thing, we are growing and diversifying. A name change was in order to keep up with our ever diversifying portfolio of services and loans. Our new name encompasses who we are what we do. “Calling Northern Shores a loan fund was not an adequate representation of our vision and mission. Our tribe has a historical role in regards to being traders and facilitating trade.

We wish to cultivate that heritage by providing the means for tribal citizens to walk in that tradition and
in turn have a positive impact on developing our own community and also the communities we have a
relationship with. Northern Shores Community Development is a more accurate description of this goal.” stated Trustee Secretary Steve Sochay. Entrepreneurs are still a focus of our business because there is a huge demand in Northern Lower Michigan.
